At the end of another long and fruitful academic year, when anyone might expect academics to be thinking of summer vacation, shopping and perhaps even holidays, a group of diyas/teachers from Auro Mirra international School gathered in Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry preferred to spend a week discussing on ideas for innovation in teaching. The agenda was to exchange new ideas for teaching all subjects at primary and pre-primary levels. Mr.Devin’s workshop was on conceptual understanding of Mathematics which was very stimulating. Mr. Babak familiarized the diyas with enquiry approach to learning. Ms. Maitreyee made the importance of senses clear through variety of sensory games. She also gave the diyas whole lot of techniques that could be implemented in the classroom. Ms. Harvinder Kaur presented the Project method which involved trans disciplinary approach which builds on natural curiosity, enabling children to interact, question, connect, problem-solve, communicate, reflect and more. This kind of authentic learning extends beyond the classroom to each student’s home, community, nation, and the world. It essentially makes learning the stuff of real life and the children active participants in shapers of their worlds. The challenging task of improving concentration was highlighted by Mr. Sushanto’s activities. Different aspects of education were dealt in a simple and innovative way by experienced hands. Besides, visit to Schools and screening build in diyas their confidence.
